Wear your full Class A uniform.  Let's start this year looking sharp!
This will be an important information sharing time for everyone planning to be involved in Troop 407 during this coming year.
All Scouts must bring: 
  • At least one parent, preferably both
  • $90 annual dues: make checks to "Troop 407, BSA"
  • Updated Scout Profile information forms which were sent to you in the mail.  Please provide us with all of the requested information.  Many forms that we must file with the Council throughout the year require this information and it is much easier to collect it all now.  Legible entries in a brightly colored pen will greatly ease data entry.
  • If you did not attend summer camp with us, or used last year's medical form to do so, a new complete Annual Health and Medical Record.
Those scouts (First Class and above) interested in running for SPL or ASPL, come prepared to speak about your qualifications and ideas.
Saturday 9/8
10am - 10pm 		Huntington Beach Join all of your troop friends for a day and evening at the beach. Some will drive, some will ride bikes, all will have fun! Those who are interested will start at The Pond in Anaheim and ride the Santa Ana River Trail to Huntington Beach. We will gather at Huntington Beach for play, a burger and dog BBQ, and s'mores. Bring the whole family. We need committment from some parents to go early and claim a fire pit and some to make the food happen. (JKM) Get flyer.

This is an easy, but scenic hike that is open to scouts and family members of all hiking abilities. The hike is about 5 miles with 1600 feet of elevation. The trailhead is at Islip Saddle on the Angeles Crest Highway. Bring your Ten Essentials, water, and trail lunch.

Come join us for the resurrection of an old troop tradition! We will camp on a beach on an island in the middle of Lake Mead and spend the days playing in the water and exploring the island. We will have boats and equipment so people can waterski and tube ride. We will have a single troop-wide menu planned by the adults. Bring your swim trunks, sunscreen, hat, ground cloth and sleeping bag, cup, bowl, and spork. And sunscreen and a beach chair. Also bring sunscreen.  Get flyer.

We will be staying in cabins at Camp Tahquitz. We have three cabins that hold 9 people each. If there are enough adults and scouts interested, a contingent will go to Snow Summit or Bear Mountain on Saturday to ski.

7:30am - 4pm 		Devil's Punchbowl Natural Area Day hike from the Devil's Punchbowl Park (County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation) parking area to the Devil's Chair. (Doug)
The hike is 7.5 miles with 1850 ft of elevation gain. It is rated as moderate difficulty. There is an optional one mile loop at the top which shows off more of the unique geology of this area.

We will take the Evey Canyon trail from Mt Baldy Road to the top of Potato Mountain, watch the sunset and the lights of the valley come on, and then hike back down, arriving just as it gets dark.  It is about 5 miles round trip.  Bring water, snacks, and your Ten Essentials.  We need enough parents to drive the group to the trailhead and at least two adults to hike.

This will be an evening meeting at UCC to discuss Philmont generally, equipment, and to prepare for the beginning hike. This meeting will be most important for those not familiar with Philmont and less experienced in backpacking.

2:00pm - 4:00pm 		Memorial Park Come join Troop 407 and our new "little sibling" Pack 401 in showing that Scouting is alive and well in Claremont by participating in the annual Fourth of July Parade. Wear your Class A's and bring troop and patrol flags. Line up on 10th Street on the north side of Memorial Park at 2:00pm. This will be our first chance to show off our all-gender, all-age scouting units to our community. Please come be a part of it. (Walter)

Easy backpack trip of approximately 5 miles planned in the San Mateo Wilderness area of the Cleveland National Forest. This trip will be an introductory backpacking trip that will focus on methods, rather than hiking. This will be most important for those scouts and adults less experienced in backpacking.

8:00am - 9:30am 		CUCC Service project for our sponsoring organization. We need to setup tables and chairs on Sixth Street for a block party and picnic. Many hands will make this go quickly. Come back at 11:00 to eat and play games and at about 12:45 to put it all away.

Fri 8/30 - Mon 9/2 Eastern High Sierra Backpack Trip (Porter W & Doug)
This backpack trip will take us to the Eastern Sierra above the town of Lone Pine at elevations in the range of 10,000 to 12,000 feet in the Cottonwood Lakes area. It will be approximately 20 miles over 3 days through the Golden Trout Wilderness, John Muir Wilderness, and Sequoia National Park. The trailhead is at Horseshoe Meadows at 10,000 feet, which gives us great access to the High Sierra without extensive climbing from lower elevation. Once on the trail, the scenery will be stunning: pristine alpine lakes and streams, high elevation meadows, large basins gouged out by glaciers, and surrounding peaks rising to over 13,000 feet.

This will be an important information sharing time for everyone planning to be involved in Troop 407 during this coming year.  Every youth must bring at least one parent. (JKM)

10am - 10pm 		Huntington Beach Join all of your troop friends for a day and evening at the beach. Some will drive, some will ride bikes, all will have fun! Those who are interested will start at The Pond in Anaheim and ride the Santa Ana River Trail to Huntington Beach. We will gather at Huntington Beach for play, a burger and dog BBQ, and s'mores. Bring the whole family. We need committment from some parents to go early and claim a fire pit and some to make the food happen. (JKM)
